A Walk in a Park 2025

Support me as I take part in A Walk in the Park 2025

I am very excited to take part in the 2025 A Walk in the Park for Fight Parkinson's again on Sunday April 27th. This year I am proud to be an ambassador for the event.

I was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's (YOP) in early 2024 and it has been quite a journey with many of you supporting me through this.

Last year thanks to all my friend's support, proudly, I was the highest fundraiser for this event.

Please donate today to help me raise money for Fight Parkinson's who have been instrumental in giving me advice and assistance.

Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition that affects people from all walks of life. It is quite common, with approximately 219,000 Australians, including over 57,000 Victorians living with Parkinson’s.

Your support is greatly appreciated.

My walking ambition

Thursday 13th Mar
Last year after my diagnosis I set myself a goal that I wanted to walk 18 holes of golf two days in a row at our annual boys golf weekend in August.

It was a big challenge as due to, what I now know was ‘exercise induced dystonia’, a foot issue I had since my early 20’s, I hadn’t walked 18 holes in a long time. Turns out this foot issue was an early sign of Parkinson’s.

So I began walking every day in 2024 and built up my kms until I was doing 10,000 steps per day (about 7-8kms). The foot issue was under control, clearly helped by the Parkinson’s medication (levodopa).

I was so proud of myself on the golf weekend as I walked 9 holes Friday then a full 18 holes Saturday.

Then we went to the local footy and my ambition and ability got mixed up during kick to kick (half time hero’s) where I managed to do myself  a mischief and injured my foot and hand - turned out it was a fractured foot.

I was very sore Saturday night and kept drinking (of course) and woke up bruised and battered Sunday morning.

Despite the boys encouraging me to use a cart, I managed to hobble a full 18 holes Sunday - didn’t play very well.

So that was 45 holes over three days. Something I had never done in 30 years.

Wow.

Thanks to all my mates for their support.

2025 Ambassador

Tuesday 18th Feb
I was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s at the beginning of 2024. My head was still spinning from the diagnosis and my neurologist suggested I visit the Fight Parkinson’s website for information and support. I came across A Walk in the Park and right there and then, I decided to focus my energy on raising money and awareness through this event.

The actual event was a game-changer for me as I met so many new people who were willing to share their stories and Parkinson’s journey.

Raising money for this wonderful charity really became clear to me as the year wore on as I have used their website tools, joined the Young Onset Parkinson's Peer Support Group and reached out several times to the Fight Parkinson’s Team for advice.

I am proud to be an ambassador in 2025 and look forward to seeing even more people there, raising awareness of Parkinson's and fundraising for Fight Parkinson's so they can continue their valuable work.
